* Finally gave my robotics presentation to my Artificial Intelligence class last night. I think it went pretty well, I know I sure had a good time at it. I think it’s that teacher-streak coming out a bit. Of course the real high point of the presentation was a video from the Honda Robot page. If you are a follower of Asimovian beliefs, you must check out that site. Simply amazing.
* New and interesting content on Charlie’s site: TorahWiki.
* What’s a “wiki”, you ask? well, it’s Hawaiian for fast (If you ever need a cheap rental while in Honolulu, check out Wiki Wiki Wheels, really!) Otherwise go to The Wiki Page for information.

* Had lunch with Charlie today. As always, I walked away with some powerful insights regarding religion, computing, philosophy as well as the merits of fried fish. (it’s bad because it’s fried, but it’s good because its fish so it kind of negates itself nutritionally) (no we don’t really believe that) Hopefully we will be able to get together more often now that my office is closer to Kirkwood (at least for the time being)

* Bravo, Charlie! Glad to see others utilizing the Locks of Love service. If you’ve not heard, they take donated hair (such as Charlie’s ponytail) and weave it into wigs for children that have suffered hair loss from cancer treatments.
* Someone at work gifted me with a retail boxed version of FreeBSD 4.4. This is a nice addition to my collection! It will be nice to actually RTFM after running the O/S for so long.
* Couple of major projects at the office have got me under the gun. Probably not a lot of posting for the next couple of days.

*This morning while feeding Ronan and Keenan, Ronan decided to get a bit hyper and started to rock back and forth in his booster seat. This wouldn’t be such a big deal except that he was actually getting the legs of the chair (the booster sits on top of a regular chair and is secured with straps) to come up off the floor. So, we packed everyone up and headed out to the store and purchased two brand new high chairs. Of course, these came as kits (as does just about everything, nowadays) so I had to assemble them once we got home. Boy, what a difference! It is easy to see that the boys are much more comfortable and secure now. I know Faith and I sure feel better! Next month, new car seats (they have just about outgrown their current seats)

* Managed to make it through the mid-term in my Artificial Intelligence class last night. It was only five questions, open note, open book and it still took the better part of 75 minutes to complete. (I think I was the third one finished)
* My Robotics presentation was postponed until next week, so I will have a bit of time to polish it up a bit before then.
* Ever watch Robot Wars? Well, at lunch today I ran into a local guy who just got back from London where he participated in the latest round. He reports that he really swept up! No really, that was the easiest way to reclaim what was left of his ‘bot: by sweeping it up with a broom and dustpan! He is entering into the Ultimate Machine Combat competition. Best of luck!
* In response to my entry regarding my email problems, Charlie has come to the rescue! Instead of trying to filter out all of the spam from my email, he has pointed out that it is much easier (and efficient) to filter out relevant email, and let the rest fall out as spam!

* When one changes his/her email address, it behooves one to check the correct mailbox on the server. ( I now have a pool of about four addresses that I use)
* I think I am approaching the point of abandoning my original email address. I have had random@mo.net since the beginning. I’ve used the same email for over five years. (maybe longer, I don’t quite remember) Unfortunately, the overwhelming majority of my email has become spam. I’ve been trying to use spam filtering with Gnus (based on the code that Charlie uses, but to no avail. Now I have a SPAM folder that gets approximately one third of the offending muck, and the rest still ends up in my INBOX. I may try to mess with the filtering a bit more before I give up, but at this point, it may simply be time to discard the offending address and start using one of my others as my primary.
* Once again, I have moved offices. I am still in the same building as the past two weeks, but now I’ve been moved to what may be a semi-permanent location. At least for the next six weeks. I’m back in a nice featureless gray cube again. Dilbert would be right at home here.
* Added a new subsection to the forums. I am halfway through my class on artificial intelligence, and thought that would be a great addition for the site. Also made some significant changes to the php code so that it integrates better into this site. So, I guess it’s more or less based on Phorum, instead of a straight use of there code. The guts are the same, I merely made some cosmetic changes.
* Also upgraded Mark’s forums to the latest version of Phorum
* I wonder if the people that continually try to hack this server realize that all of the transactions are being logged? You know, like IP address, host name, etc… for instance:
o 216.126.186.187 c3T2-187.015.popsite.net [07/Feb/2002]10:29 /scripts/root.exe?/c+dir
o 211.94.255.4 [07/Feb/2002] 04:47 /default.ida?NNNN%u9090%u678%u0000%u00=a
kind of silly, not to mention pointless. I guess I should start forwarding this kind of stuff on to the authorities..

02.05.02

* Not much time for updates at the moment, so I will push that off till later. (probably tomorrow) For now, I just wanted to point out that I have been asked to create a set of forums for someone again, and this time I decided to go ahead and add a set here first. So please take note of the new entry “forums” on the menubar above. Right now there isn’t much there except a “general discussions” forum and a folder containing a few operating system forums. I will add more over the coming days, so if you have a need for a forum, or suggestions, click on the contact link above and send them to me (of course, you could post them to the “general discussions” as well). I am curious to see if anyone will really use them.

02.04.02

* Big news on the baby front! Ronan has sprouted a tooth! Both Keenan and Ronan have been teething for some time, and it looks like they are both cutting the same tooth, in the same location! Well, I guess that’s the norm for twins! I was letting Ronan chew on my finger for a second when the sharp pain let me know that his tooth had broken through!
* Teeth are a good sign, and that means we have moved up to bigger, less mushy (but still mushy) foods. And… CHEERIOS! WooHoo! Boy, Ronan just can’t get enough of them! Keenan likes them, but isn’t real sure on the whole proximo-distal thing just yet, but he’s working on it! (that would be the hand-to-mouth reflex, usually illustrated by the ability to place a cheerio in their mouth)
