Perhaps my promotion is getting closer… today I had to interview for my own job. I really do enjoy these corporate games!

I had to drive downtown today because the Bay Networks NTS (a 72 port term server) locked up when I rebooted it remotely. I had to change a parameter to allow external access (i.e. telnet to one of the connected ports) and in order to make the change effective, it needed a reboot. Instead of simply reloading the rom image, it panicked and didn’t know what to load! (This is roughly the same problem that happened two weeks ago in KC). Of course when it did try to reboot, it attempted to load the wrong O/S version (oper.42.enet instead of oper.46.enet) There must be a setting on the OMP that gives it this misleading information, since that O/S isn’t even loaded in the roms.

I was finally able to get fetchmail working with our exchange server. Turns out that a) the I.S. dept changed the name of our server without telling anyone, and b) the server isn’t listed in DNS so even after I figured out the new name, I still couldn’t resolve it until I used the IP address. (now if I can only figure out where fetchmail put my messages…) ::smile::
